One of the oldest art fairs, Art Cologne celebrated its 55th edition this year from 16 to 20 November. The fair was divided into different sectors – 7 this year. 190 galleries participated in seven different sections, including Neumarkt, dedicated to young brands, and the new Art + Object section, which combined design, objects from antiquity, Old Masters and non-European art. This section replaced the Cologne Fine Art & Design fair, which was also organised by Koelnmesse. Exhibitors included German “heavyweights” and fair stalwarts such as Sprüth Magers, Hans Mayer, Michael Werner and Karsten Greve. Others participating for the first time or returning after several years’ absence included Lelong & Co, kamel mennour, Albert Baronian, Max Hetzler, Ben Brown Fine Arts, Mehdi Chouakri and Rodolphe Janssen. But the young galleries were not left out, with the “Neumarkt sector” which was presenting solo shows and group exhibitions of young, international galleries, maximum twelve years old. Finally, as every year since 1980, emerging artists had the possibility to present their works in a 25 square metre area attached to the stands of their galleries, thanks to the the sponsorship programme of “New Positions”.
