Affordable Art Fair New York

Affordable Art Fair was created in London in 1999 with a clear aim: make art accessible to everyone, seasoned buyers as well as newly art lovers. In 2002, Affordable Art Fair arrived in a second important city, New York. As in London, there is now an Affordable Art Fair New York in Spring and one in Autumn. The Spring edition takes place in March, to start spring with art, colors and joy. The Fall edition is held at the end of September. They both take place in the Metropolitan Pavilion, in the heart of Manhattan, just a few minutes away from the Flatiron Building and the Empire State Building. They showcase around 70 local, national and international exhibitors. Over 300 contemporary artists are represented with original paintings, sculptures or prints. Affordable Art Fair also organizes talks, workshops and even kid activities. It is the perfect place to invest in the next generation of artists.

What is Affordable NYC DNA?

The New York edition was the second Affordable Art Fair to launch globally and we now host two fairs annually—one in Spring and one in the Fall—at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea. Our fair has become a trusted resource for New Yorkers to buy contemporary art priced under $10,000 and we continue to further that mission by creating inspiring, welcoming and educative events for people to discover the joy of collecting art.

What type of gallery exhibit and why?

We present a mix of 70-75 local, national and international galleries and artist collectives. Some are emerging, others are established, many have brick-and-mortar spaces, and we also include online only galleries. The idea is to provide an overview of the contemporary affordable art market today and cater to the many tastes of our very diverse audience.

What is the price range? Who buy?

All artworks exhibited at the New York editions are priced between $100-$10,000 USD and our buyers range from art novices looking to buy their first piece for their home to seasoned collectors wanting to add to their existing collection.

Is there a typical Affordable NYC visitor?

Our audience is very diverse, which is the beauty of our event. I would say our typical visitor has a disposable income, is culturally savvy, and lives in the five boroughs.

What is Affordable NYC special appeal?

I think the New York edition in particular is a good mix between fun and sophistication. In addition to discovering works by over 400 international artists under one roof, you can also experience performances in the aisles of the fair if you visit during our Art After Dark event, make art with your kids during our family-friendly Stroller Hour, or listen to an inspiring talk at the intersection of art and design if you happen to visit the fair during Trade Hours. There’s something for everyone at Affordable Art Fair NYC!

Please name two other art fairs you would suggest

I would have to recommend our sister fair, PULSE Art Fair, which takes place in Miami during Art Basel week. We are owned by the same company, Ramsay Fairs, and share an office and resources with the PULSE team. In fact, I was working on PULSE before I started directing Affordable Art Fair NYC. Another fair I’d highly recommend is VOLTA New York and VOLTA Basel. I’ve always loved their curation and mix of galleries.
