Design Miami/
Design Miami/ is an event not to be missed for all those interested in influential design on an international level. Taking place alongside Art Basel Miami Beach in early December, the fair showcases the best of 20th and 21st century design. Indeed, visitors can see and purchase museum-quality furniture, lighting and decorative pieces. As well as being a market place for great design, the show aims to broaden the audience base and excite seasoned collectors. Thus, there are commercial opportunities for those involved in the industry, and cultural opportunities for anyone enthusiastic about good design. In brief, it is a celebration of innovation and creativity. That’s why the fair brings together critics, designers and collectors from around the world. Finally, a series of lectures is also available as part of the itinerary. Design Miami/ runs another fair – Design Miami/ Basel – during Art Basel week, every June.

What would you say is the DNA of Design Miami/?
The fair is a marketplace for work primarily from the 20th and 21st century, starting at the advent of modernism all the way to present day. We pride ourselves on making the fair one of the preeminent fairs in the world for collecting design and encountering new designers and ideas as well as historically significant work under the same roof.
What type of galleries are chosen to exhibit, and why?
We have a number of founding galleries who have been with Design Miami/ for 15 years and continue to inspire us each edition through unexpected collaborations and explorations of historical design periods. We also have a number of New Galleries to Miami this year from around the world, including AGO Projects (Mexico City), Sokyo Gallery (Kyoto), Erik Thomsen Gallery (New York), Galerie Scene Ouverte (Paris).
Who is the typical attendee of the fair?
While collectors, designers, gallerist, curators, artists and other industry professionals are permanent fixtures at Design Miami/, we strive to make Design Miami/ accessible to the general public and a place where art-lovers and families can come and engage with collectible design.

What makes Design Miami/ so special?
In Miami, we tend to see a broad mix of works from the 20th century including Italian, French, Brazilian and American. With every iteration of the fair, we strive to illuminate aspects of design for the community around us. This year, we are presenting ideas that are important, beautiful and hopeful.
What are two other art fairs you would suggest?
UNTITLED, ART selects a curatorial theme each year where galleries and artist-run exhibition space and non-profits can exhibit.
NADA Miami is known for showcasing underexposed artists and their works and has a real community feel as it was founded by emerging galleries and independent curators who form a non-profit membership organisation.
