Accessible Art Fair

Also known as ACAF, Accessible Art Fair aims to promote unknown artists and bring their work to the public eye. The event helps quality, self-represented artists form a bond with international collectors. The work showcased is carefully selected by a committee of experts, and the fair offers the opportunity for new talent to be discovered. The organisers pride themselves on bringing new ideas and fresh work to the discerning public in a 4-day event that includes talks and a DJ playing music in the evening. First launched in 2006 in Brussels, ACAF has opened an additionnal edition, Accessible Art Fair New York.

No further edition of the fair is planned.

What would you say is the DNA of Accessible Art Fair Brussels?

While visiting one of the big fairs for the first time about 15 years ago I said to myself, ‘this is great, but where are all the artists?’ The answer was that the artists were rarely seen and this drove me to create ACAF. At ACAF you always meet the artist behind the work.

What type of galleries are chosen to exhibit, and why?

We have always stuck to our ethos of showcasing self-representing artists, meaning we work with artists directly and not with galleries. There are plenty of art fairs for galleries but very few that showcase artists. Without such a platform, there would be very few opportunities for artists.

What is the price range? Who buy?

We don’t communicate a price range but we tell artists to showcase works under 20K. Most works are priced under 10K. New collectors, seasoned collectors, there is not one profile of buyers.

“At ACAF you always meet the artist behind the work.”

Is there a typical Accessible Art Fair visitor?

No, there is not. All kinds of people attend the fair.

What is Accessible Art Fair special appeal?

What makes Accessible Art Fair special is the chance for the public to spend time to get to know the artists, their process, to see the art through their eyes and gain insight on the work.

What are two other art fairs you would suggest?

Frieze Masters and TEFAF Maastricht, I love to look at Modern art and Old Masters!
